What to do if your passport is lost or stolen
In the event that your passport is lost or stolen follow these steps to obtain replacement travel documents and support your claim.
1. Report the loss or theft to the police within 24 hours of discovery and get a written report. If the theft occurs from your accommodation report it to the accommodation manager and request a written report.
2. Report the loss or theft to the British FCO Consulate, Embassy or High Commission immediately. Click here for the location and contact details for worldwide FCO embassies
The FCO will cancel your lost passport and issue you with replacement travel documents so you can travel back to the UK.
Lost or stolen notification form
You will need to complete a lost or stolen declaration form (LS01) in order for your passport to be cancelled and prevent it being used fraudulently.
Getting replacement travel documents
You will need to provide verification of your identity, a police report and pay a fee. Retain all original documentation as this will be required when submitting a claim.
