1. Report the incident to the police immediately and get a written report.
To make successful claim on your travel insurance you will need some evidence of what happened. A written police report should be obtained for this purpose.2. Cancel cards and travellers cheques
If you have had your bank or credit cards stolen you must contact the issuing bank immediately to cancel them. This will prevent any fraudulent spending on your accounts.Cancel travellers cheques and arrange for replacements. Remember to keep a record of all the serial numbers in a safe location separate from your cheques.
3. Collect evidence to support your claim
If your holiday accommodation or vehicle is broken into and your possessions are stolen, you must collect evidence of the break-in. Ask the police to detail any damage to your accommodation or vehicle and report to them what has been stolen. Get a statement from the accommodation owner or car hire company detailing any damage, or retain a copy of the repair bill. Photos of the break-in damage may also help to support your claim.4. Lost passport
If your passport is stolen report it to the British FCO Consulate, Embassy or high commission immediately and get a replacement as soon as possible. The FCO will issue you with replacement travel documents so you can travel back to the UK. Retain receipts for all expenses incurred in obtaining replacement documents.5.Obtain and keep receipts
Retain all cash point and foreign currency exchange receipts in order to support your claim for personal money.
