- Age 18
- Born in Gloucester, where he still lives when not training in Lofer, Austria with the GB Development Team.
- Learnt to ski at five years-old in Puy St Vincent – where he won the Super G 10 years later
- Started racing aged nine with the Gloucester Ski Club – where he is still a member - first in the Summer Race League and then started registered racing at 12 years-old
- Spent time with the British Ski Academy in 2001/02 and won a bronze at the British Schoolboys 2003
- Joined Team Excel in 2002/03 and achieved fifth place in the slalom at the British Junior Championships 2003 which earned him an invitation to train with the English Alpine Team – he spent the summer of 2003 with them.
- His first FIS (International Ski Federation) year was 2003/04 during which everything came together at the British and English Championships. Sam got the points needed to be eligible for national team selection and he won the title of Junior 1 Super G Champion.
- First southern hemisphere season in summer 2004 in New Zealand with the Wannaka Race Academy
- Back to Europe for the 2004/05 season, and spent some time with Paul Benton and Mike Barker at the Alpine Race Academy in November and then spent Christmas and New Year in Norway with the English Team.
- In winter 2004/05 he selected for the GB Youth Olympic Team 2005. This gave him a British Olympic Passport meaning he has been identified as an 'Olympic Prospect'.
- Ripping his anterior cruciate ligament while training for the British Championships meant 2005 was spent in recovery – he came back in March 2006 with a week with the English Team, and then back training on the dry slope with Gloucester Ski Club.
- He was selected for the GB Development Team, and spent the 2006/07 season based in Lofer, Austria where he finished the season as English Alpine GS Champion
