Go Sponsors Xscape Real Snow Slopes
For Immediate Release

Cover Yourself for More than Broken Bones
Go Travel Insurance and Xscape have teamed up to offer skiers of all standards the ideal preparation for their trip to the slopes. From the 1st March, as part of the 'Go Safe’ campaign, Go Travel Insurance wants to encourage people to combine practice at one of the Xscape ski centres with the appropriate levels of travel insurance cover.
Practice does make perfect but even so, skiers do need to be covered when going away. Over 1.2 million trips were booked in 2004 but 1 in 7 passengers had no cover at all and many of those who did have travel insurance did not extend their policy to winter sports. Coupled with the fact that in the US alone, there were over 165,000 ski and snowboard related injuries, the importance of appropriate cover becomes more apparent.
No matter the standard of the skier, comprehensive winter sports cover is vital. With the right policy, skiers can also cover themselves against lift closure due to adverse weather, delay due to avalanches and loss of equipment as well as the “regular” items such as medical or hospital expenses.
In terms of where to practice, the Xscape centres in Milton Keynes and Leeds have all the facilities winter sports enthusiasts need to get ready for the piste - Milton Keynes even has the longest indoor slope in Europe, measuring 170m.
Christian Young, Chief Executive of Go Travel Insurance said: “skiing remains a very popular pastime for British holidaymakers but not everyone takes the necessary precautions. Many travellers are inadequately covered – if at all. Go Travel insurance doesn’t just cover health and medical bills in the event of an accident. Go Travel Insurance’s winter sports cover includes ski pack and off piste skiing*, but as importantly it is one of the most competitive in the market place.
“The combination of practicing your turns at Xscape and full winter sports cover will mean skiers can go away knowing they are better prepared to relax and enjoy their trip.”
PY Gerbeau, Chief Executive of X-Leisure (owners of the Xscape centres) is a fellow supporter of the 'Go Safe’ campaign. He said: “we are delighted to be associated with Go Travel Insurance in encouraging skiers to practice before they go away – and of course when they are on the slopes to be adequately insured.”
