Hens & Stags Don't Take Precautions

6th July 2007

Almost half of all hen and stag groups heading overseas do not have adequate protection from their travel insurance policies.

It is estimated that around 2.25 million Brits go abroad to celebrate the last days of freedom before marriage, meaning that more than one million of them are not travelling with the correct insurance coverage, according to Go Travel Insurance.

The trend to go abroad to celebrate the last days of freedoms have rocketed in the past few years led largely by the no frills carriers’ boom in routes.

Chief executive Christian Young commented: “Groups of friends going away together to celebrate a friend getting married are more likely to take more time deciding which bars and restaurants to hit than whether they have travel insurance.

“But the truth of it is if they go uninsured and something goes wrong,  there’s a chance they’ll wreck the trip for everyone, not just themselves.”

For example, if an uninsured member of the party has an accident and needs hospital treatment, it’s unlikely that they are going to be able to write a cheque for hundreds, if not thousands, of pounds to cover the treatment. This means that all too often it will take a whip-round from their friends to cover their bill. If they were insured it would be taken care of.

Young added: “It’s not just the hen and stag groups that need to take this into consideration when planning their trip – this is also the time of year when students are heading off the Mediterranean resorts for two weeks in the sunshine to relax after their exams. It’s crucial that these groups also take out the cover they need.”

Go Travel Insurance offers groups travelling together of five people or more a 5% discount and ten people or more a 10% discount. Go Travel Insurance travel insurance policies start from £3.95 for single trip and £31.95 for annual cover.
