Brits choose city breaks over clearing debt

Research has shown that going on city breaks to get away from it all is fast becoming a priority for UK residents – above paying off ever increasing credit card bills and other debts.

Research published by Mintel has shown that 18% of Brits look to take a city break as a spending priority – an increase from 14% on 2005.  Compare this to the desire to become debt free at only 16% and it becomes clear that most of us want to get away without being concerned about the consequences.

It is easy to see why weekends away to mainly European destinations are fast becoming a very popular way to beat the humdrum of the working week.  With return flights to many cities from as little as £50 per person, it is now an option not just afforded by the wealthy.  The most popular destinations across Europe this summer are all easily reached and have lots to offer.  From the Venice International Film Festival to the Hellenic Festival in Athens or the beach in vibrant Barcelona – Europe has it all.
