Plans to build a new golf resort in the United States are set to get underway as financing for the project has been secured, it has been revealed.

The Village Creek State Park in Arkansas has received a $5.4 million (£2.7 million) loan to build a 27-hole Andy Dye signature course, news which could be welcomed by golf tourists looking to take a break on the otherside of the Atlantic.

State Parks director Greg Butts said: "We hope that this outstanding golf resort will be the first of several new developments in east Arkansas."

The golf resort will also incorporate a lodge with meeting rooms, 17 villas containing a total of 35 rooms and a golf pro shop.

It is thought that golf tourists will be able to tee off at the new resort by April 2008.

However, those wanting a golf break closer to home could be advised to visit the Turkish port of Akdeniz-Antalya.

Marketing manager of the Aegean Port Authority Figen Ayan told the Turkish Daily News that the region has "significant potential for golf tourism".
