Going on holiday? – Get a great deal on travel insurance
British people will continue to travel abroad, despite the credit crunch, it has been claimed.
Francesco Frangialli, secretary-general of the UN World Tourism Organisation, said that demand for foreign travel was likely to remain strong for the foreseeable future.
Addressing the United Federation of Travel Agents' Association, he said: "Experience teaches us that tourism is resilient
The need to go on trips, to take holidays, is too strong in our post-industrial societies."
Instead of cutting back on travel, people are looking at other ways to save money, such as opting to travel with family and friends to keep costs down, Mr Frangialli added.
In related news, holidaymakers were last month warned not to cut costs by holidaying without travel insurance.
American Express spokesman Chris Rolland said that those who could not afford travel insurance should "think twice" about going on holiday.
