Travel insurance 'essential' for thrill-seeking holidaymakers

Holidaymakers have been warned not to undertake dangerous events on their travels without the correct travel insurance, after new research found more people than ever before were taking park in thrill-seeking events.

A study by esure found that 88 per cent of British holidaymakers have taken part in such events as bungee jumping or scuba diving abroad - with ten per cent wrongly believing that all travel insurance policies covered such activities as standard.

Meanwhile, 63 per cent of Brits abroad would take the time to check their travel insurance covered the hazardous activity beforehand.

Mike Pickard, head of travel insurance at the company, said: "With a surge in the popularity of more adventurous sports, it's crucial for holidaymakers to take out travel insurance and check they're covered before they try out the likes of white water rafting in Australia or shark-feeding in the Bahamas."

Recent research by the company found that 20 per cent of Brits will not take out travel insurance for their holidays this year.
