Travel insurance buyers should 'check level of cover on offer'

Going on holiday? – Get a great deal on travel insurance

Tourists are being advised to take out a travel insurance policy which offers the right level of cover for them.

According to Malcolm Tarling from the Association of British Insurers (ABI), consumers should not focus on the cost of travel insurance cover but should look to ensure the protection offered by different suppliers meets their needs.

He said: "The cheaper product might be the one for you, but it depends - you've got to check the cover, not just the price."

As a result, taking the time to shop around for the most-effective travel insurance was recommended.

Mr Tarling added that frequent travellers could be well advised to take out annual travel insurance policies as they provide "unlimited cover for the year".

The ABI representative also pointed out that the third of tourists estimated to travel without any form of travel insurance "are taking a hell of a risk that isn't worth taking".

Earlier this week, Find.co.uk claimed that Britons going on a short break to Europe should take out sufficient travel insurance cover and not rely on the European Health Insurance Card to provide for medical treatment.
