Going on holiday? – Get a great deal on travel insurance

The majority of holidaymakers would be unwilling to change their travel plans to a more environmentally-friendly alternative, a new study indicates.

According to findings by Taylor Nelson Sofres (TNS), seven per cent of tourists claimed they would be "quite likely" to choose a green destination, with only two per cent reported to be "very likely" to do so.

Tom Costley, head of UK travel and tourism for TNS, told Travel Weekly: "It may well be that this reflects a belief amongst travellers that their one or two flights a year will make no real difference – and demonstrates a need for the travel industry to work to counter the apathy amongst consumers."

Meanwhile, about one in seven respondents claimed they would opt for a tour or holiday operator which is involved in a carbon offsetting scheme.

However, only four per cent of respondents have been reported to make a payment to offset their travel over the last year.

Earlier this year, a study by Travel Insurance Web indicated 61 per cent of tourists would be happy to pay a 'green tax' to help balance out the impact air travel has on the environment.
