Going on holiday? – Get a great deal on travel insurance

Those holidaymakers who travel abroad specifically to receive medical treatment are being advised that they may not be covered by regular travel insurance cover.

According to Keith Pollard, managing director of Intuition Communication, those looking for foreign treatment will themselves unable to make a claim under a standard travel insurance policy if they have they suffer an accident or lose their luggage.

He said: "It's a significant [medical] problem, because if you are travelling abroad for treatment [and] take out regular travel insurance, it is invalid."

"A lot of people travel with regular travel insurance, not realising that they have invalidated it," Mr Pollard added.

As a result, he advised travellers to ensure they take out travel insurance from a specialist broker which will provide the specific product related to their needs.

Earlier this year, Richard Mason, director of insurance at moneysupermarket.com, reported that those travelling abroad should be completely open about their medical condition when looking to purchase travel insurance, otherwise they risk invalidating any claims.
