An increasing number of Britons are taking their work with them on holiday, new figures reveal.

According to research conducted by swiftcover.com, tourists are taking devices such as mobile phones and laptops to keep up to date with work while they are away.

Director of underwriting Craig Staniland said: "It seems we can't face missing out on the latest office or social gossip, probably fuelled by the advent of smarter and slicker technology.

"Millions of Brits are now taking hundreds of pounds' worth of technology on holiday with them in a move away from the traditional 'relax and unwind' holiday activities."

Meanwhile, six per cent of Londoners admit to taking a BlackBerry or a wireless device away with them to keep up with work emails while abroad.

The study also indicated 23 per cent of tourists claim to never feel fully de-stressed after having a break.

Towards the beginning of this year, research conducted by Virgin Holidays indicated that 56 per cent of tourists contact their workplace while they are away.
