A Swedish couple had an unwelcome surprise this week when a drunken sheep shearer broke into their Scottish hotel room and took them hostage.
The man, who has been named as Benjamin Davis, allegedly broke into the room after the hotel refused him entry, the BBC reports.
Davis then proceeded to pace up and down the couple's hotel room, while subjecting them to verbal abuse.
A court heard that the couple eventually managed to flee by pushing the man out of the way, before running to the bar for help.
The defendant's solicitor Brendan Sinclair said: "His position is that he had far too much to drink. He cannot offer any explanation for acting the way he did. He remembers drinking whisky and that's not normally his drink."
Mr Davis said that he wished to apologise unreservedly to the couple for his "senseless" act.
The incident occurred in the small village of Blairgowrie home to the world's tallest hedge.
