Thailand is set to be Asia's top tourism destination during 2007, according to a new report.
In research conducted by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) a poll of 400 tourism officials stated the country is most likely to attract visitors over the coming 12 months, reports TravelMole.
Matthias Tewes, Asian specialist for TUI Germany, voted for Thailand as the destination he expects to profit the most from tourism this year.
He told the publication: "Overall, the trend for Asia is positive and we are expecting further growth."
Mr Tewes claimed that Vietnam is also set to attract tourists this year, as is Indonesia if the country manages to curb its latest outbreak of bird flu.
However, he claimed Sri Lanka may face a "difficult year".
A study by Barclays Travel Insurance revealed that the Thai island of Phuket had seen the third largest increase in the numbers of British visitors between December 2006 and January 2007.
