Being weighed without any clothes on could reduce the cost of insurance premiums, it has been suggested.
According to BestDealInsurance, being nude on the scales can make all the difference between being judged obese or to be of a 'standard weight', which could save up to 50 per cent more on price of life cover.
Consumers were also advised to take out insurance with a specialist broker.
Chief executive David Thomson said: "It can simply be a case of matching the right insurer to an individual's circumstances - which an independent brokerage can do.
"Experienced brokers know what health, occupation or hobby factors can place you as a higher risk in the eyes of some insurers as well as which insurers won't load up your premiums because of these factors."
He added that consumers should be conscious of the face that a number of insurers look through their family's medical history before judging premium costs.
Earlier this year, Richard Mason, director of insurance for moneysupermarket.com claimed that older travellers should be completely open about any pre-existing medical condition when they are buying travel insurance, otherwise they risk invalidating claims.
However, tourists will be glad to know that Go Travel Insurance provides various comprehensive travel insurance policies for those up to the age of 99.
