Sydney Airport has witnessed a record number of passengers over the last year, according to media reports.
Over the past 12 months, the airport saw 30 million tourists, reports Australia's Daily Telegraph.
Chief executive Russell Balding told the publication the 4.6 per cent rise in airport users was due to "unprecedented growth" in international tourism in January.
Last month was reported to be a record for tourism, as the airport received nearly one million international visitors.
Mr Balding also claimed international passenger growth was driven by continued strong tourist numbers coming from Britain, Korea and India.
According to hostel owners in the area, King Cross in Sydney has seen an increased number of backpackerstravelling from Europe, reports the Wentworth Courier.
Claiming to have a reputation for "exceptionally high levels of passenger service", Sydney Airport was ranked as one of the world's ten best airports in the 2005 Skytrax Airport of the Year awards.
