Backpackers are looking for ways to go on adventure holidays on the cheap, often overlooking travel insurance, a new survey has found.
According to research by FairFX, students are wanting to explore places on their gap year and take up adventure holidays, but are getting rid of travel insurance from their budgets.
As a result, many are not covered by an insurer if something goes wrong and could end up paying hefty medical bills in the long run - leaving them out of pocket.
Stephen Heath, chief executive of the currency converting company, said: "There is no point sticking your head in the sand and hoping for the best when it comes to financing your gap year away.
Meanwhile, recent research from Teletext found that it is not just gap year students seeking thrills from adventure holidays.
A study found that honeymooners are opting for activity holidays over traditional two-week breaks.
