The strength of the euro against the pound has knocked destinations such as Paris and Dublin off the agenda this year, it has been claimed.
Travel site cheapflights.com has reported an increase in flight searches outside the eurozone, as Brits attempt to beat the credit crunch and make the most of the weak dollar.
The number of people searching for flights to Orlando has increased by 29 per cent over the last year, TravelMole reports, with New York searches up by almost nine per cent.
Chris Cuddy, chief executive of the site, said: "With the current issues facing air travel, it's interesting to see the changes that are occurring as Cheapflights' users search for the best value flight deals on both sides of the Atlantic."
Flight searches for destinations such as Thailand and Turkey are also on the increase, with page views for Dalaman up 17.5 per cent.
James Freemantle of the Air Transport Users Council recently suggested that Britons would rather downgrade their travel plans and give up everyday luxuries, rather than forego their annual holiday altogether.
