Going on holiday? – Get a great deal on travel insurance
Families looking for a good deal on their holidays should plan as far ahead as possible, it has been claimed.
Ian Bradley, a spokesman for the Association of British Tour Operators, said that families considering a holiday next year should already be planning.
"The last minute market at the moment is pretty quiet and the trend that I have seen from AITO members is that future bookings are looking very healthy because people are booking well in advance and budgeting accordingly to pay for these trips," he explained.
It is particularly important for families to plan ahead, Mr Bradley added, due to inflexible nature of school holidays.
Meanwhile, the 2008 Ebookers Travel Opinion Report revealed that more than 50 per cent of people view holidays as an essential expenditure.
The findings of the report echo the comments of Lonely Planet editor Tom Hall, who last week said that holidays were "non-negotiable".
