Ivan Lynch, marketing manager for Authentic Ireland Travel, said Dublin city becomes a "big block party" at the weekend.

"It's a very compact city … there are a lot of bars and lots of trendy, new places. It's got a good mixture of everything," he commented.

A city steeped in history and the birthplace of numerous Irish playwrights, Dublin is also a must-visit destination for any 'culture vultures' out there.

"There's lots of theatres in the city. It's great for music, again because it's a small size there's lots of bands playing here," Mr Lynch continued.

Some of the city's most popular attractions include the famous Kilmainham Gaol, the iconic Guinness Storehouse and Dublin Zoo.
