Prime minister Gordon Brown has decided against a long-haul holiday this summer and will be opting for a trip to sunny Suffolk instead.

Along with his wife and sons, Mr Brown will reportedly be spending a week in the East Anglian seaside resort of Southwold.

The current prime minister's holiday plans are a far cry from those of his predecessor Tony Blair, who favoured trips to Florida and the Caribbean islands.

A quintessentially English resort, Southwold's main attractions include the Electric Picture Palace cinema, Costal Voyager trips around the harbour and the New Cut Arts Centre.

Mr Brown's family holiday to Dorset last year was cut short due to a foot and mouth disease scare.

The Daily Mail reported that Conservative leader David Cameron will also be holidaying in the UK this year and is said to be considering Cornwall.
