'Off piste skiers advised to get travel insurance'

Going on holiday? – Get a great deal on travel insurance

Those looking to get off the piste for some winter sports action on their skiing holidays are being advised to ensure they have sufficient travel insurance cover.

According to a report by American Express, 'patchy' conditions at many popular European ski resorts could see many skiers and snowboarders go off piste in the search for well-blanketed routes.

Marketing manager Joanne Field said: "Last year there were twice as many accidents in the French Alps than the year before, so we would encourage everyone to ski or board wisely and obtain appropriate travel insurance cover before they depart."

She added that without an adequatetravel insurance policy tourists may have to pay medical treatment should they get into an accident.

The study also reported that over 50,000 skiers and snowboarders are rescued from British ski holiday hotspots in the French Alps every year.

However, holidaymakers will be glad to know that Go Travel Insurance incorporates a wide range of winter sports activities including off piste skiing and snowboarding as part of their standard ski insurancepolicy.

A number of activities and sports can also be covered at an extra cost.
