A real treat is in store for culture vultures in Munich in October, when the city's museums are open late and discounted.
The Lange Nacht der Museen (Long Night of Museums) takes place on October 21st and around 80 museums and collections, along with churches and art societies, offer conducted tours, concerts and other events.
A ticket will cost €15 and give you access to all the museums, which stay open until the early hours.
They include the Alte Pinakotek (old masters museum), the Deutsches Museum (science museum) and the Bavarian National Museum, which traces the region's artistic history.
Petrol-heads might want to visit the BMW Museum, a mushroom-shaped building tracing the history of one of the world's greatest carmakers.
While in Munich, you will probably want to head to one of the city's Biergarten (beer gardens) for a refreshing litre of Germany's finest. Many of these establishments also sell traditional Bavarian food such as Obatzda cheese and grilled ribs.
