Lazy beach holidays to destinations such as the Canary Islands and the Balearics are the 'best' type of break, according to a majority of the British public.
A recent survey carried out by Holiday Extras revealed that 59.8 per cent of Britons prefer beach holidays over any other type of break.
Commenting on the findings, Mike Whiting, managing editor at Holiday Extras, said: "With the last couple of British summers blighted by rainfall and colder temperatures, it is no surprise that UK travellers are in search of sunnier climes.
"Furthermore, it emerged that activity breaks are the second most popular type of holiday, followed by breaks and ski trips.
Just five per cent of people said that a cruise was their ideal holiday.
In related news, more than half of Britons plan to increase the amount they spend on travel over the coming year.
A poll by TripAdvisor revealed that despite the credit crunch, 56 per cent of people plan to boost their holiday spending.
