Going on holiday? – Get a great deal on travel insurance

Holidaymakers have been urged not to jeopardise their travel protection by failing to tell their insurance provider about pre-existing medical conditions.

Research carried out by Sainsbury's has revealed that 1.3 million Brits travelled abroad last year without informing their insurance company about their health problems.

Almost one in five of those surveyed said they did not mention their condition in order to keep their premium low, with 15 per cent of people worried that they would be refused cover.

Sainsbury's travel insurance manager Sam Marrs said it is important that people provide their insurer with all the information they ask for.

Meanwhile, those heading off on holiday this summer have been advised by the government to apply for a European Health Insurance Card, which offers protection for medical emergencies when travelling within the European Economic Area.
