Going on holiday? – Get a great deal on travel insurance

British holidaymakers should ensure they are not complacent with their debit and credit cards when abroad, one financial expert has claimed.

Kerry D'Souza of the CPP – an organisation which helps consumers protect against fraud – suggested that people are more at risk of having their details stolen when abroad than in the UK.

"You're on holiday, you're relaxed and you're not necessarily thinking about what's going out of your bank account – you might not want to think about it.

"It's not until you get home and you have a look at your bank statement that you realise that more has come out than you expected," she commented.

Although British consumers are protected by chip and pin technology, Ms D'Souza pointed out that this often is not the case in foreign countries.

Recent research carried out by CPP revealed that over 30 per cent of fraud involving British cards is committed in foreign countries.
