Going on holiday? – Get a great deal on travel insurance

An increasing number of British holidaymakers are failing to purchase travel insurance, according to a recent study.

A new poll revealed that one-in-seven Brits are forgoing travel insurance in a bid to save money.

Moreover, the survey – carried out by Moneysupermarket.com – revealed that 14 per cent of holidaymakers have never taken out a travel insurance policy.

Peter Gerrard, a spokesman for the site, said: "The excitement of getting away and spending time in the sun, seems to push travel insurance to the back of holidaymakers' mind's. Taking this risk is not such a good idea considering four-fifths (81 per cent) of Brits fall ill whilst on holiday."

Mr Gerrard noted that travel insurance offers protection against cancellations, emergency medical treatment, lost cash and missing baggage.

He added that men were the worst culprits when it came to travel insurance, with 17 per cent of men failing to purchase a policy, compared to 12 per cent of women.

In related news, DIY holidaymakers were warned earlier this week that they, in particular, could be left vulnerable without travel insurance.
