Packing for a holiday can be an unnecessarily stressful experience, it has been suggested.
According to Virgin Atlantic, travellers can take the stress out of packing by following a few simple steps.
When it comes to carry-on baggage, Virgin Atlantic flight service manager Joe Bates suggests that holidaymakers use a rucksack as opposed to a bag on wheels.
"This doesn't allow you to over pack and it is also more practicable as your hands will be free to handle your ticket, passport and other essentials," he explains.
Passengers can also make life easier by writing a "packing list" in order to avoid taking any unnecessary items.
Rolling clothes up and carrying jewellery and make-up with hand luggage is said to be a good way of saving space and packing miniature toiletries is also advisable.
Virgin Atlantic cabins service supervisor Frankie Harris suggests that passengers also prepare themselves for onboard temperatures.
"Aeroplanes can be quite cold, so carry a pashmina (also great to use as a pillow substitute) and travel in lots of light layers, which are easy to remove or put on and this also saves space in your packed luggage," she explains.
Meanwhile, Tots to Travel recommends that families weigh their luggage before leaving home and try to distribute items evenly.
