Foreign currency sales are still strong, with British holidaymakers keen to escape to warmer climes despite the shaky economic climate.

A recent statement from the Post Office revealed that sales of the euro are up six per cent on last year, with demand for the US dollar also looking strong.

Helen Warburton, Post Office head of travel services said that currency sales were up "collectively across the board".

"September sales have been among the most buoyant this year, showing no sign of the downturn that might have been expected as a result of the credit crunch," she commented.

The research also suggested that destinations such as Egypt and Turkey have proved particularly popular this year.

In related news, holidaymakers have been warned that travel insurance is essential and should not be cut in order to save money.

The warning comes after research carried out by American Express and YouGov revealed that 14.5 million Brits are planning to travel without insurance this year.
