Going on holiday? – Get a great deal on travel insurance

The number of people searching for flights abroad is on the increase, it has been claimed.

Figures released this week by travel site Skyscanner show that searches are up 54 per cent for the first quarter of 2009, compared to the same period last year.

Commenting on the figures, Skyscanner chief executive Gareth Williams said that despite the recession, people are reluctant to give up their hard-earned holidays.

However, good value is a top priority for many people when making their booking.

"They are determined to find the very best deals possible and they are less keen on sites that charge commission, or sites which expect them to trawl through different dates and destinations one by one to find the best offers," he added.

Meanwhile, those who are considering jetting abroad this year have been urged to take out a travel insurance policy.

Janet Connor, managing director or insurance firm RIAS, said that holidaying without cover is a risk which is not worth taking.
