Going skiing or snow-boarding? – Get a great deal on travel insurance
Ski fans itching to get onto the slopes need wait no longer, thanks to the publication of a list of the top-ten spots for early-season ski action.
Furthermore, there is no real need to travel further than Europe to enjoy pre-Christmas skiing, with the Guardian listing the majority of the top-ten spots as European resorts.
At number one on the list is the French ski resort of Val Thorens. This particular resort is the highest in all of Europe, with the majority of the ski area situated at an altitude of above 2,000 metres.
If the snow isn't falling naturally, the resort also has 1,500 artificial cannons to ensure that the slopes are skiable.
Other resorts listed in the top ten include the perennial favourite Chamonix, home to the highest mountain in the Alps - Mont Blanc.
"Chamonix's other advantage is that it's a proper town, so low season doesn't mean tumbleweed blowing across the bar floor," the newspaper notes.
For those who do choose to head off to the mountains for a last minute ski holiday, travel insurance should not be omitted because of haste, according to Perry Wilson of InsureandGo, who comments that " travel insurance should not be considered a luxury - it is essential".
