The London Eye is set for some Middle Eastern competition as plans continue to take shape for the Great Dubai Wheel.
The giant Ferris wheel will be built in Dubailand, a luxury complex that is due to open towards the end of 2005. However the wheel is not scheduled to open to the public until 2008, when it will offer views stretching over 30 miles.
Dutch engineering company Hollandia will be building the wheel.
The firm should be well-practiced at constructing oversized fairground attractions having also built the London Eye, which was recently voted the best tourist attraction in the world.

The vast trading port is an astonishing sight from the water and those lucky enough to catch a cruiser or small abra boat will be able to appreciate its magnitude against the backdrop of the Dubai skyline.
