Going on holiday? – Get a great deal on travel insurance

Over half of British consumers plan to increase the amount they spend on holidays over the coming year, it has been revealed.

A study carried out by online travel community TripAdvisor found that 56 per cent of Britons plan to spend more on leisure travel during 2009 than they did in the last year.

Furthermore, 69 per cent of consumers said that an unfavourable exchange rate would not deter them from travelling within Europe.

Commenting on the findings, Luke Frednerg, European director of communications for TripAdvisor, said: "It's surprising that despite the economic climate, British travellers are planning to spend more on leisure travel in the next year than in the past 12 months."

It also emerged that holidaymakers aim to improve their 'green' credentials over the coming year, with 21 per cent of people planning to make more environmentally friendly travel decisions.

In related news, budget carrier Ryanair has been voted as Britain's least favourite airline for the third year in a row.
