Going on holiday? – Get a great deal on travel insurance
An increasing proportion of British holidaymakers are travelling to more countries, new figures reveal.
According to a study released by AXA Travel Insurance, the average tourist has gone to seven different countries.
However, five per cent (1.3 million) Britons have visited more than 20 countries, reports Travel Weekly.
Head of lifestyle protection and household claims for AXA Nick Kidd claimed Britain is "witnessing the rise of a new breed of traveller, one that prefers to track down new destinations than return to old haunts."
Despite the rising popularity of budget flights, 2.9 million adults were reported to have never gone on a foreign holiday.
Meanwhile, some 300,000 "mega travellers" have gone to more than 50 countries.
Last week, tourism officials in Mexico reported that the central American country is becoming increasingly popular with foreign holidaymakers.
During the first three months of this year, 3.6 million international tourists visited the country, an increase of some 8.3 per cent from the same time last year.
