Going on holiday? – Get a great deal on travel insurance

British holidaymakers have been urged to protect themselves against sexually transmitted infections (STIs) this summer.

According to research carried out by Spinvox - a communications company that works to promote safe sex - around 1.3 million Brits will travel abroad this year in the hope of sleeping with a stranger.

The poll, which was carried out in conjunction with www.standbywhatyousay.com, revealed that 27 per cent of men go on holiday with the sole intention of looking for sex, compared to eight per cent of women.

Jonathan Simnett, global head of communications at Spinvox, commented: "We believe that one of the reasons that people are at risk from STIs and HIV and Aids is because they are not open about sex and the subject of safe sex in particular."

The NHS recommends that anyone concerned about STIs visit their genitourinary medicine Gum clinic as soon as they return from abroad.
