The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) is making British tourists aware of its advice for those travelling to Bolivia.

This announcement follows a period of civil unrest in cities across the South American country earlier this year.

As a result the FCO has advised that travellers should exercise caution as a number of public protests and strikes are still taking place throughout Bolivia.

Meanwhile, Lloyd Aereo Boliviano, the country's national airline has suspended all scheduled flights until further notice.

Although the country's terrorist threat is regarded as "low", tourists are being warned of the rising number of kidnappings.

Tourists are also advised to register with the British Embassy in La Paz which may be able to provide consular assistance should they become a victim of theft of money, bank cards or passports.

As a result, tourists are advised to take out adequate medical and travel insurance cover before leaving Britain, in addition to a valid Yellow Fever vaccination certificate should they visit the Yungas and Chapare areas of the country.

Go Travel Insurance is a partner to the FCO in its Know Before You Go campaign which aims to raise awareness of personal safety when travelling abroad.
