Bath has been voted as Europe's 6th "best city" by the readers of the Sunday Times Travel magazine.

The city, which is home to some of the country's most stunning buildings, boasts a number of top attractions including the Jane Austin Centre, the American museum and the famous Pulteney Bridge.

As well as being voted as one of Europe's most beautiful cities, Bath's Royal Crescent Hotel was named as the UK's "best hotel" and the Thermae Bath Spa was voted as the UK's finest retreat.

The magazine noted that staying at the Royal Crescent Hotel was akin to "spending the weekend with Mr Darcy", with its spectacular collection of individually designed rooms and award-winning restaurant.

With many Brits keen to holiday close to home this year, Bath is sure to be inundated with visitors this summer. However, those who are considering a domestic holiday this year are being urged to take out travel insurance.

Speaking earlier this year, Neil Laird of Sainsbury's Finance said: "It can be easy to overlook travel insurance if you are not going on a foreign break but many of the problems that you can encounter abroad can also happen here in the UK on holiday, so it is important to ensure that you have adequate cover."
