Going on holiday? – Get a great deal on travel insurance

With the bank holiday weekend approaching, millions of tourists looking to go away in their caravan are being reminded of the need to take out an adequate insurance policy.

According to Co-operative Insurance, the average cost of an insurance claim on a caravan is £1,826 with the majority made following theft or storm damage.

Director of general insurance David Neave said: "Many people take caravan breaks to escape the pressures of everyday life but it is important that holidaymakers are aware of the potential dangers and keep a watchful eye on their caravan and belongings to ensure that their trip remains stress-free."

As a result, Mr Neave suggested that holidaymakers should make sure their vehicle is locked securely and windows and doors are not left open.

Meanwhile, accidental contents damage and vandalism were also reported to be common sources of caravan insurance claims.

Tourists looking to take their caravan abroad should also ensure they have sufficient travel insurance cover.

Last week, Brian Brown from Defaqto claimed that "too many" holidaymakers have inadequate travel insurance, as they are often unaware about the terms and conditions to their policies.
