Going back-packing? – Get a great deal on travel insurance
Backpacking around the world need not be a lonely affair. According to the Times, making friends on the move is easy for those who know how.
In a report by the publication earlier this week, travel writer Katrina Bishop advised backpackers to stay in hostels as opposed to hotels and to make conversation with fellow backpackers.
Other top tips include arranging a night out with other travellers, sharing cooking duties and swapping travel advice.
"Facebook is your friend. Ensure you add your new pals as soon as possible, and youll forever marvel at the usefulness of social networking," Ms Bishop noted.
Taking a pack of cards or a small game is also a great way to make friends, particularly on long train journeys.
In related news, top tips for backpackers looking to keep their travel costs down include stocking up in supermarkets, as opposed to dining out in restaurants and using pre-paid international calling cards instead of mobile phones.
