Backpackers urged to leave technology at home

Going back-packing? – Get a great deal on travel insurance

Backpackers and adventure holiday travellers are being urged to leave at home any technological items that they would not like stolen while on their trips.

According to Lonely Planet, more and more people going on adventure holidays are taking technology - such as mobile phones or MP3 players - with them and not having the correct travel insurance to cover loss or theft.

As a result, some travellers are being left without methods of communication and out of pocket at the end of their trip abroad, Tom Hall, travel editor of the publication, claimed.

He added: "There are very good reasons why people might want to take all of those items with them but I think that it once again underlines the need for people to have travel insurance. If you can't bear to lose it, then don't take it away with you."

Lonely Planet has published over 500 country guides in eight languages.
