Going back-packing? – Get a great deal on travel insurance

Many backpackers are still following the tried and tested routes when going off on their travels, according to Lonely Planet.

However, travellers need to take more money with them to ensure that they can cover all the costs of their holidays.

Thailand, South Africa and Egypt have been shown to be the least expensive destinations worldwide for backpackers in research conducted by the Post Office.

In Europe, Bulgaria was shown to be the cheapest country for tourists to visit.

Tim Hall, travel editor at Lonely Planet, commented: "The traditional routes are still very much the popular places to go but given the foreign exchange changes, if you're going to places like that then maybe you need a bit more money up front."

One in 12 backpackers spends more than £10,000 when they go travelling according to research conducted by Insure and Go, those who are interested in travel insurance might like to know.
