Backpackers looking for volunteer work with a difference may be well advised to travel to Ghana, it has been revealed.
The news comes as Gap Year Ghana offers up to 20 backpackers the opportunity to live and work from a beach house located outside the African country's capital city, Accra.
Founder of Gap Year Ghana Aurore Down claimed the company looks "to offer a service that satisfied the students' desire for a stimulating and worthwhile gap year experience with a level of care that would reassure a parent".
"At the same time, students mustn't feel mollycoddled," she added.
Volunteer projects offered include the chance to teach in local schools, work experience at radio stations and football coaching.
Set on Langma Beach, the house is less than an hour away from Accra, offering backpackers sea views, a garden and tennis court.
Meanwhile, two members of staff permanently reside in the beach house alongside the gap year travellers with qualified support staff visiting regularly.
Last week, it was announced Global Travel Market is set to offer a flight comparison service for backpackers visiting gapyear.com.
