Going back-packing? – Get a great deal on travel insurance
Backpackers and those who take gap year breaks often have more interesting CVs than those who go straight to university from school, it has been suggested.
Speaking recently, Tom Griffiths, founder of Gapyear.com, said that employees today are looking for more than just degrees.
He suggested that companies are keen to employ people with life skills and those who can demonstrate initiative.
"The top three things employers want are life skills: initiative, communication skills and decision-making skills. They are less interested nowadays in vocational degrees," he commented.
According to Gapyear.com, people who have spent time travelling can make their CV stand out from the rest and secure better positions in the future.
A recent study carried out by Alternative Futures, on behalf of One Life Live, revealed that 84 per cent of people think that doing volunteering work on a gap year break will boost their employment prospects.
