Going on holiday? – Get a great deal on travel insurance

Travellers visiting British Airways' website, www.ba.com, can take advantage of Google Earth technology that will allow them to plan their holiday itinerary before they arrive.

Google Earth is a program that allows users to zoom in on pictures of the earth compiled using satellite imaging and aerial photography. It puts "a planet's worth of imagery and other geographic information right on your desktop", enabling internet users to find hotels, restaurants and more.

Now BA has teamed up with Google to provide the technology within its own website, with browsers able to zoom in on 111 destinations.

Passengers flying to a ski resort will be able to see their hotel's location in relation to the slopes before they arrive, while holidaymakers heading to Florida will be able to see how close to Disney World they are staying.

The BA website also offers tips on how to get the most out of the Google Earth service.

Obi Felton of Google commented: "We hope holidaymakers have fun with this specially created tool. People have always enjoyed finding their own home on Google Earth and now they can see where they'll be laying down their beach towel or enjoying après ski before they fly."
