Guests at an Austrian holiday resort now have the bizarre opportunity to cool off in a pool containing 42,000 pints of beer.

Seven pools at the Starkenber Beer Myth resort have been filled with beer.

The management of the hotel, located in and around the medieval castle of Starkenberger in Austria's Tyrol region, claims that beer baths heal various skin diseases.

However, it does not seem that a healthy skin is guests' main consideration when taking the plunge in the beer pools. Many have been spotted enjoying a sip of the brew while swimming.

Manager Markus Amann told Ananova: "I would rather swim than swallow, as we serve enough of a cold, fresh tapped beer on the bars next to the pools."

For the more serious health fanatics, the nearby town of Lienz plays host to the annual Dolomite cycling challenge.

Every year, over 2,000 cyclists descend upon the Alpine town to take on gruelling mountain routes with steep climbs and breathtaking views from the peaks.

The standard route stretches over 112 kilometres, with the 187 kilometres marathon sporting altitude differences of 3,000 metres.

The sideshow of the race includes concerts, parties and other entertainment, drawing crowds from all over Europe.
