Going on holiday? – Get a great deal on travel insurance

With the summer months approaching, consumers are being advised to ensure they have sufficient home insurance to cover subsidence damage.

According to figures released by moneysupermarket.com, there was a 33 per cent rise in subsidence claims on homes last year in comparison to 2005.

However, with the Met Office suggesting this summer could be hotter than average, Richard Mason, director of insurance for the price comparison website, warned homeowners to ensure they have adequate cover.

He said: "If you are aware of a subsidence situation when you move into a property, fully update your insurer.

"If you live in an area of drought you are likely to be more at risk from subsidence so make sure you check your building insurance is up to date."

Meanwhile, those going away this summer are being advised to ensure that they have a sufficient travel insurance policy.

Research conducted by Defaqto earlier this month indicated that many tourists often fail to purchase travel insurance cover which suits their needs, often due to misunderstanding terms and conditions to their premiums.
